CM: Stereotypes of civil servants unfair

SHAH ALAM, 9 June: Civil servants should intensify ethics and integrity to be better, in addition to meeting the high expectations of the people, said the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali.

“In a democracy, a government must confront various demands in accordance with the environment and the lifestyle of the people.

“Therefore, we will improve the skills of civil servants through training with new modules to raise their potential in acting more effectively and efficiently,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Selangor Government Departments’ Monthly Assembly at the Silver Jubilee Hall today.

At the event, a total of 111 officers and civil servants from various departments received outstanding service awards.

Mohamed Azmin said that the stereotype perception against civil servants are also unfair and should be corrected based on the achievements recorded.

He said that Selangor civil servants have proved their role as the main pulse in the state government administration through a number of success indicators.

“MPSJ, MBPJ, MPK and MPAJ have been recognised as the best local authorities in Malaysia wit five and four stars. In addition to that, Selangor also obtained the Certificate Without Warning for the state government’s 2014 financial statements from the Auditor General.

He said that the state government reserves from public funds and investment also increased from RM2.9 billion (December 2013) to RM3.2 billion (December 2014) and further increased to RM3.54 billion in April.

“This success is not possible without the support from officers and members if the civil service at the state and district levels.

“This proves that all civil servants in the state have been providing good service in collecting revenue. In the first quarter alone, we managed to collect 52 percent (RM1.1 billion) from this year’s target,” he said.
