MBPJ: No compromise for cleaning work, contract terminated upon failure

PETALING JAYA, 24 Apr: Cleaning contractors may face termination of their service contract if they fail to comply with the rules provided by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

The Petaling Jaya Mayor, Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, said that the move was to ensure that the image of MBPJ is not tarnished with the lackadaisical attitude of contractors in solid waste clean-up.

He said that about 80 percent of complaints received by the local authority are related to solid waste management and potholes.

“We will not compromise in this case because when they do not collect garbage, the Council will be blamed when it is the contractor’s job.

“We have already paid so it is their responsibility,” he said after chairing the MBPJ Full Meeting at his headquarters today.

Mohd Azizi said that MBPJ will give prior notice to the contractors involved to rectify their services if there is a complaint.

However, he said that if they fail to perform their tasks according to schedule, then MBPJ will not hesitate to terminate their service.

“If we do not take firm action against the appointed contractors, the same problem will recur and we cannot accept this,” he said.
