The opposition should prioritise the traffic master plan compared to the Kidex

PETALING, 13 Apr: The Selangor opposition should cooperate with the Selangor government which wants to establish the traffic mater plan to reduce traffic congestion in the Klang Valley.

The Bukit Gasing Assemblyman, Rajiv Rishyakan, said that if Umno-BN is truly attentive about the people’s problems, they should work together to help establish the plan.

“We need to look at a more holistic solution and the state government intends to establish a better master plan instead of the construction of a highway,” he said.

He said this during a press conference today when commenting on the motion by the Umno-BN Assemblyman for the Selangor government to proceed with the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) project.

Also present was the Damansara Utama Assemblyman, Yeo Bee Yin, and the Kinrara Assemblyman, Ng Sze Han.

Referring to the simulation by the Kidex traffic consultant, Rajiv said that the average travel time only decreases by 1.3 percent with the construction of the Kidex.

Prior to this, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, suggested for a ratio of 60:40 to be changed to 60 percent public transport and 40 percent public transportation, and not vice versa.

“So do we need to build 30 highway networks in Petaling Jaya because each expressway only improves it by 1.3 percent?

Bee Yin criticised the opposition for being better prepared before bringing the motion to the DNS session to prevent the same explanation from being repeated.

“Even though clarification on the report regarding the cancellation of Kidex has been given many time, they (opposition) did not research and is questioning the same matter.

“So not waste the time of council members because we have various issues and motions to be discussed,” she said.

On February 16, Mohamed Azmin announced the cancellation of the Kidex project because the concessionaire failed to comply with the three conditions set despite being given adequate time to do so.

The requirements were to provide an impact assessments for traffic, social and environment, and stating the toll rates during the concession period.
