Development is the cause of flooding in Batu Tiga

SHAH ALAM, 16 Apr: Systematic development in Batu Tiga brings about benefits, however the flooding problem causes problems, including to the local communities.

However, the Batu Tiga Assemblyman, Rodziah Ismail, hoped that the issue can be resolved soon due to the development being undertaken, which is expected to be fully completed in the next few years.

“Batu Tiga is a small valley and all development carried out will cause water to collect in this area.

“Because the development here is almost 95 percent complete, what is important is maintenance, reparation and enlarging drains or to improve the irrigation system,” she told Selangor Kini.

She said that the flood issue is among the main problems and the state government has allocated almost RM60 million for infrastructural development in the area.

“Flooding happens due to the impact of development because drains have not been maintained properly for a long time and there are drainage systems that should be enlarged,” she said after the contribution programme at Batu Tiga to the target group yesterday.

Prior to this, Rodziah said that Batu Tiga always works closely with local communities, especially those in need.

“Previously, I ran separate activities like visiting from house to house to deliver donations. For this programme, I gathered everyone so that they could get to know one another.

“If this partnership exists, what can be done to overcome local community problems can be seen,” she said.

She presented donations to several groups of recipients from programmes such as the Senior Citizen’s Scheme (SMUE), the low-income earners and those unemployed, in addition to non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
