New technologies & courses a move to improve quality of road paving

SHAH ALAM, 8 Apr: The use of new technologies and courses for contractors are among the measures taken to improve the quality of paving and managing road assets.

The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the approach is being taken to improve the comfort and safety of users.

He said that monitoring found that contractors and officers involved in the work are not paving roads the right way.

“The road paving course emphasises on the quality of roads by learning a paving process to reduce accidents.

“In 2015, 500 technical officers were trained at a cost of RM400,000 and next year for UPEN-registered contractors and quarry companies to pave roads,” he said during a press conference at the Selangor State Assembly (DSN) lobby today.

He said that a company has been appointed to handle work involving highways under the Public Works Department (JKR) for 1,140 kilometres at a cost of RM1.83 million.

He said that the distance is part of the total distance of 3,700 kilometres.

“The contract period began on December 1 last year and they are expected to complete the work at the end of December next year.

“From then, upon getting satisfactory results, we will proceed with other roads,” he said.
