Water disruption in Petaling, Hulu Langat & Kuala Langat recovering

KLANG, 9 Mar: The disruption of water supply in the area of Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang due to a contamination at Sungai Semenyih has started recovering since 12 pm yesterday.

The Exco for Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Agro-Based Industries, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that so far, 96 percent of residents have begun to receive water supply in Petaling while 52 percent of the water supply has begun to recover in Hulu Langat.

Meanwhile, Kuala Langat also showed an increase with a rate of 98 percent and 64 percent for Sepang.

“We received feedback from the Selangor Water Supply Company Sdn Bhd (Syabas) that showed that the water disruption problem has improved.

“Consumers are advised to obtain information at the Syabas website and to download the MySyabas application for further information about water supply,” he said.

Zaidy said that the cause of the contamination has still not been identified but integrated operations with related parties will be in full swing.

He is confident that efforts will bear fruit and it will be solved soon.

“For areas above the plant, it will take about 10 hours before we can identify the manganese content and we have to arrange to find the cause.

“But in this concerted effort, we will be able to get the answer (cause) soon,” he added.

Early last week, the Semenyih Water Treatment Plant had to be temporarily shut down as there was contamination in Sungai Semenyih.
