PPR issue: Selcat statement to be taken to DNS in August

SHAH ALAM, 4 Mar: The statement of the Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) regarding the maintenance and monitoring of People’s Housing Programmes (PPRs) in the state will be taken to the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session in August.

The DNS Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, said that they will make an in-depth study regarding the issue through the documents received from all witnesses called in the public hearing.

She said that the Selcat will not make any decisions regarding the issue and will only make recommendations that can be used by the parties involved.

“We will prepare a statement that contains recommendations from the committee as a result of meetings and findings obtained after the public hearing ends.

“This statement will be brought to the DNS session in August to be discussed and approved.

“We will look at the overall issues that happen at PPRs across Selangor, not just those involving maintenance, but all matters,” she said.

Hannah said that the Selcat will also not be hasty in presenting the statement, instead they will use the time they have to find appropriate findings regarding the issue.

She also rejected claims that the Selcat is responsible for issuing instructions related to maintenance for all PPRs in Selangor.

“It is not the Selcat’s responsibility to ensure maintenance is done, but we only make suggestions because we have no executive power to issue directives,” she added.

The Selcat is chaired by Hannah and comprises of a panel consisting of Selangor Assemblymen including Dr Xavier Jayakumar, Saari Sungib, Shafiee Ngah, Haniza Talha, Ng Suee Lim and Sulaiman Razak.
