TANJONG KARANG, 27 Feb: The state government increased enforcement to prevent any contamination that may interfere with the supply of clean water to a point of causing water treatment plants to close.
The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that this is because previously there was an oil spill and ammonia waste causing water treatments to close for long periods of time.
Touching on doubts concerning the use of mine water as an alternative source, Mohamed Azmin explained that expert studies found that the water is safe to be used after going through the process set out at treatment plants.
“The treatment plants we have now have the capacity to treat this kind of water.
“It is an additional supply. So far, river water is enough and if it is not enough, we have dams that will discharge into the rivers to be entered into the treatment plant.
“That is the option available as an addition. We are also in the process of completing the Horas 600 that is expected to be completed in September 2015,” said Mohamed Azmin.
Mohamed Azmin said that the proposal for cloud seeding will also be discussed during the meeting and the state government is ready to cooperate with the federal government.
“The state government is ready to cooperate with the federal government in the interest of consumers and the people.
“We have no problem because the central government and the ministry has no plans yet to carry out cloud seeding; the state government had done it before.
“If there is a need to continue this programme, we will do it because we do not want to cut of the supply of clean water to the consumers,” he said.
