3 new MBPJ faces sworn in, 9 maintained

PETALING JAYA, 17 Feb: A total of 12 people from the People’s Justice Party (PKR) were sworn in as council members for the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) today.

The appointments were to fill vacancies for council seats for the 2014/2015 term.

Of the total, the three new faces appointed are R.A. Sugumaran, Chong Fook Meng and Wong Yuet Leng.

Meanwhile, the nine-members who were re-appointed are Tang Fuie Koh, Ahmad Akhir Pawan Chik, Raja Fairuz Raja Mazlan, Mahharul Ismail, Ong Swee Long, G.Suriase, Shatiri Mansor, Cynthia Manonmani and Halimey Abu Bakar.

The acting Mayor, Puasa Md Talib, said that the council members appointed will undertake responsibilities as policy makers for the council in like with the state government, in addition to mobilising the community to be directly involved in programmes organised and become an intermediary between MBPJ and the residents.

“All council members appointed are a combination of new and old faces, with differed backgrounds including engineering, business, politicians and the field of politics,” he said.

He also thanked council members who were terminated for their services.

Puasa said that the composition of council members from different backgrounds and experiences would hopefully be able to give their full commitment in realising all plans and programmes by MBPJ.

“The council members also need to forge closer ties with the community in their respective areas, irrespective of race, to help Petaling Jaya achieve MBPJ’s goals,” he said.
