SHAH ALAM, 6 Feb: The plan to demolish the Taman Ehsan Public Market will not be continued until the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) acquires a new site for the traders.
The Paya Jaras Assemblyman, Mohd Khairuddin Othman, said that the developments of the issue will be decided after a meeting is held with the representative of the traders, MPS Officers, Council Members and himself.
“The meeting had decided to obtain a new site and for this purpose, MPS will apply to the District Officer.
“We are working on a new site for the traders that have already been identified; located about 100 metres from the existing market.
“During the meeting the day before yesterday, an agreement was reached for MPS to not demolish the market right now,” said Mohd Khairuddin when contacted by Selangor Kini today.
Mohd Khairuddin added that the traders there also want intervention from the Chief Minister to resolve the issue.
“The traders’ representative also informed that they will ask the Chief Minister to help acquire a new suitable site that is not far from the original site,” he added.
Mohd Khairuddin also rejected the possibility that the field nearby to the original site will be the replacement site.
Previously, MPS issued a notice to vacate the shop lots at the market to make way for demolition, which was originally scheduled to take place on January 28.
However, the move received opposition form 51 traders of the market, the local community and the Assemblyman’s office.
Mohd Khairuddin then managed to obtain approval from MPS to postpone the demolition until a decision is reached together during the meeting that was held the day before yesterday.
