Residents of Setia Alam hope for the construction of their first mosque

SHAH ALAM, 29 Dec: The residents of Setia Alam hope for the construction of the first mosque in their locality because the need is now urgent.

The Chairperson of the Setia Alam Mosque Construction Fund Committee, Rushdan Rusmi, said that RM10 million is needed to build a mosque there and, so far, RM3.3 million has been successfully collected since 2010.

According to him, RM6.7 million is needed to build a mosque on the 2.02 hectares of land to accommodate the needs of the local Muslims, especially during Friday prayers.

“In Setia Alam, we have nine suraus and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has accredited two suraus to hold Friday prayers. However, it cannot accommodate the number of residents that is growing every day,” he said, taken from Sinar Harian.

Seeing the need, he said that he and the residents in the area have set up a committee that is entrusted by the Muslim population there to start the initiative to build a mosque.

“According to the initial plan, the construction will be carried out in phases with a total cost of RM20 million, including the construction of a hall, teachers’ quarters and so on.

“However, we are focusing on finding RM10 million in funding for the mosque building that has a capacity to accommodate about 5,000 worshipers at a given time,” he said.

In this regard, he said that they have established a fundraising area of 0.40 hectares on the site aimed at holding fundraising programmes through a variety of events planned.

“Although there is no mosque here yet, our committee has organised many activities, almost like there is already a mosque, with religious, knowledge and other such programmes.

“After this, we plan to build 10 units of permanent stalls, a stage to hold programmes, carboot sales and so on to raise funds,” he said.

He said that currently the distribution of pamphlets and donation counters are available at the Sinar Book Shop located on the 2nd floor of the Setia Alam Tesco, as well as receiving cooperation from Muslim restaurants around the area.

Those wishing to make a donation can directly donate through Ambank Islamic -2452022002697 (Setia Alam Mosque Construction Committee) or contact Rushdan at 012-2077410 or 017-2008486 (Ibrahim) or 012-9704797 (Syazwan).

Charitable donations need to be made to the Selangor Wakaf Corporation through a nominee appointed to obtain tax relief through the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) by filling out the B1 Form.
