Azmin: “Ask Dr Mahathir who this Noh Omar is”

KUALA SELANGOR, 8 Nov: The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, refused to comment on claims by the Selangor Umno Liaison Chairman, Datuk Seri Noh Omar, who claimed that he was “trying to be smart” in finding a peaceful way regarding the Sisters in Islam (SIS) fatwa crisis.

Mohamed Azmin instead said that the former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, should be consulted on who Noh actually is.

“Who? Noh Omar? He again?

“I remember asking Dr Mahathir who this Noh Omar is?” he said briefly.

Mohamed Azmin said this to reporters after attending the University of Selangor’s (Unisel) Convocation Ceremony in Bestari Jaya.

Yesterday, Noh claimed that Azmin was acting smart when proposing for a meeting to be held between the Selangor Mufti, Datuk Mohd Tamyes Abdul Wahid, and SIS regarding the misguided fatwa by the state Fatwa Committee.

Prior to this, Mohamed Azmin Ali said that he hopes that a meeting can be held between the Mufti, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (MAIS) and Sisters In Islam (SIS) in the near future.

The meeting, with the consent of the Sultan of Selangor, hopefully will avoid confusion and misunderstanding regarding the fatwa on the banning of SIS.
