For Mohd Amirul Ismail, 22, the state government should focus on the cleanliness of the island in effort to attract more tourists.

“I believe that if the island is clean, outsiders would love to visit it because it is comfortable and they can enjoy nature.

“The attraction in Pulau Ketam is there. It just needs to be kept clean, just like the existing facilities,” he told Selangor Kini.

On October 17, the Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali announced that Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) and Worldwide Holdings Berhad (Worldwide) have been put responsible to manage the waste pollution problem in Pulau Ketam.

He said that when this is resolved, the tourism industry can be enhanced due to the presence of tourists during the weekends.

Meanwhile, Aidawati Muhamad, 19, believes that the state government should also enforce more stringent laws in efforts to preserve Pulau Ketam.

“For example, fining or heavier punishment on those polluting Pulau Ketam.

“In addition, also control the development because excessive development is also capable of harming the environment, like in Cameron Highlands.

“It is not fun to visit (Cameron Highlands), so let not Pulau Ketam or other tourist places in Selangor receive the same fate,” she said.
