DNS Opposition Leader praises CM for daring to present a deficit budget

SHAH ALAM 25 Nov: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) Opposition Leader, Datuk Shamsudin Lias, praised the reforms in the presentation of the Selangor Budget 2015 brought up by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, in presenting a deficit budget.

During the DNS session, Shamsudin said that Mohamed Azmin was bold to state a deficit budget frankly without hiding behind a supplementary budget.

He said that although the budget proposed recorded the largest deficit in the history, with RM450 million, it requires attention by ensuring that state revenue reaches its target.

“Hopefully there will be good governance management with hope that the deficit will be reduced to prevent the people from bearing the burden of a reduced revenue,” said Shamsudin.

He also praised the presentation of the budget proposed by Mohamed Azmin, especially in the use of a transparent prompter, which is seen as a new change in the budget this time.

Shamsudin said that hopefully the Budget 2015 will attract domestic and foreign investors to boost Selangor’s economy.

He said that the state government should also pay special attention to affordable housing, as targeted.

“It is not enough just to meet the demand of the low-income earners to obtain housing because the cost is rising every year, with a projected increase of 7 percent per annum,” he said.
