SHAH ALAM, 29 Oct: The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is now actively introducing the first library fully operated by them, known as the Anggerik Vanilla Library, in efforts to promote the reading culture among residents.
The MBSA Deputy Corporate Director, Shahrin Ahmad, said that the library which is located in Kota Kemuning was established to facilitate the residents, especially students and children, by providing a source of knowledge and reading material.
He said that the library is also to provide various activities and school break programmes that are beneficial to fill up their spare time.
“Various local and international books have also been provided as reading and research material for visitors of all ages.
“At this library, there are several facilities provided for the comfort and ease of the visitors, including a computer corner, wifi and a surau,” he said in a statement.
The Anggerik Vanilla library began operations on April 1 by providing school break programmes to students and children such as the Riang Ria Cuti Sekolah programme, Interactive Lab Children’s Creative Craft Activities, story-telling and motivational programmes.
Recently, the Anggerik Vanilla Library officiating ceremony carried out by the Mayor, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan, who also signed the library plaque and the ‘Tree of Knowledge’ mural, as well as presenting a private contribution of reading materials.
Shahrin said that as of now, there are 1,700 books and research materials for visitors and that this is expected to increase from time to time.
“Library membership is available and the public is encouraged to become members so that the book lending process can be made easier and information on new activities can be delivered easily,” he said.
For the adult category, the membership registration fee is RM15 and RM5 will be charged for the renewal process every year.
For children between seven and 12, the registration fee is RM5 and the same amount is charged every year for renewal.
Meanwhile, there are no charges for People With Different Abilities (PWD) and senior citizens.
