PORT KLANG, 13 Sept: The Selangor Government proposed for 30 teachers from People’s Religious Schools (SAR), Chinese and Tamil Vernacular Schools to be given scholarships to enable them to further their studies.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that it enables educators to increase their knowledge, thus providing a better quality of education and teaching to students.

“We must give teachers more, otherwise how would our children get the best quality education.

“I propose for Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) or Principals to write to Dr Halimah Ali to obtain the scholarship,” he said at the Cheque Presentation Ceremony for Phase 2 of the Tamil School Assistance programme at SJK (T) Watson yesterday.

A total of 26 schools received assistance worth RM850,000 to continue the Selangor Government policy for various schools established over the past six years.

Among the schools that received the aid are SJK (T) Ladang Ampar Tenang, SJK (T) Ladang Escot, SJK (T) Ladang Riverside, SJK (T) Ladang Sungai Tinggi, SJK (T) Ladang Minyak, SJK (T) Pulau Carey Barat, SJK (T) Batu Caves, SJK (T) Klang and others.

Also present was the Executive Councillor in charge of Education, Higher Learning and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali, the Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, and the Assemblyman for Taman Templer, Zaidy Abdul Talib.

In the meantime, Abdul Khalid said that RM20 million has been allocated by the State Government for SJK (T) in Selangor since 2009.

He said that the allocation is to ensure that infrastructural development for these types of schools can be carried out well for the comfort of its students.

“Selangor has no discrimination in terms of education. Parents are free to choose which schools to send their children to.

“Prior to 2008, all types of schools are allowed, but the State Government did not provide assistance. Only after the new administration did we give (allocation)” he said.
