Youth development study to be completed in September

KUALA SELANGOR, 8 Sept: The Selangor Government is currently conducting a policy study on youth development with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and it is expected to be completed this September.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Youth and Sports, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the policy study will be practiced in youth development to ensure the benefits of the group in the long run.

“Several times it (the study) was presented to the Exco and we will see the results in the near future,” he said after inaugurating the Walkathon Tour Closing Ceremony yesterday.

In the meantime, Dr Yunus said that the Selangor Government welcomed the launch of the Drug-Free Youth Day by the Ministry of Youth and Sorts (KBS) by describing it as something positive towards youth development in the country.

He said that although the Selangor Government launched the same programme in April, but the spirit shown by KBS cannot be taken lightly.

He said that the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has also been asked to actively continue programmes like this and have strong cooperation with the federal and state government to combat drugs.

“I have written a letter to Khairy Jamaluddin to see similarities in youth development in Selangor.

“Although there is no direct answer, I see it as something good during the KBS meeting where Selangor was also invited to discuss youth development.

“This is something positive, although there was a lack in terms of togetherness in several programmes, I see it as being more positive,” he said.

KBS launched the Drug-Free Youth Day 2014 to enhance campaigns to eradicate the problem of drug abuse among the youth in the country.

The decision was following the Cabinet meeting which wanted the ministry to collaborate with various stakeholders to undertake a campaign to eradicate drug abuse.

Meanwhile in Selangor, the same programme was launched last April through the organisation of the International Sports Day with the theme “Healthy Youth Without Drugs” to promote a healthy lifestyle through physical activities towards active living.
