Waste collection by local authorities carried out smoothly

SHAH ALAM, 22 Aug: The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) has not face problems in waste collection as the process is effectively done according to the schedule set.

The MPS Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Fauzi Ishak, said that the cleaning and collection of solid waste is carried out by the appointed contractors, as required of them.

“For instance, the contractor carries out public cleaning including clearing drains, sweeping and grass cutting only twice a month while solid waste collection is carried out three times a week.

“We also hope for the cooperation of the community in maintaining cleanliness and to not just to rely on the local authority,” he said.

Fauzi said that the public needs to ensure cleanliness by throwing the waste in their house compounds at the garbage collection areas.

The waste management in Kajang is managed by the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) periodically according to the schedule set for the appointed contractors.

The MPKj Assistant Director of the Corporate Planning and Public Relations Unit, Kamarul Izlan Sulaiman, said that until now, there has not been any serious problems faced by them and all are carried out as usual.

“Only previously there were some disruptions in the waste collection schedule caused by the failure of the Semenyih Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to implement garbage disposal.

“However, the matter was successfully addressed and a drastic decision was taken by MPKj and the Selangor SUK to send the waste collected by the appointed contractors to the landfill in Tanjung 12, Dengkil, which is managed by WorldWide Sdn Bhd,” he said.

Kamarul said that public cooperation is important in maintaining cleanliness and prevents the existence of illegal dumping.
