The official statement also stated that the decision will be made under the provisions of the Selangor Constitution 1959 and asked for Abdul Khalid to continue his services to ensure the smooth administration of the state.

“HRH the Sultan has taken note of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid’s intention to resign and postponed receiving his resignation as the Chief Minister until the new appointment is determined to ensure the smooth administration of the state,” he said.

In relation to that, the Sultan of Selangor also ordered for leaders from PKR, PAS and DAP to propose more than two names from the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) party as the Chief Minister candidates to make it easier for the Sultan to determine the qualified candidate.

HRH the Sultan will consent to appoint any candidate deemed qualified as Chief Minister, in accordance with the convention that has been practiced continuously in the appointment for the position previously.
