Increased provisions to promote Visit Selangor Year 2015

SHAH ALAM, 10 June: The budget provision for the tourism sector in Selangor is expected to increase to RM4 million next year to improve the tourism industry in the state.

The Executive Councillor for Tourism and Environment, Elizabeth Wong, said that this is according to the need to accommodate activities that promote tourist destinations in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year 2015.

“There is a lot of environmental and agricultural tourism potential in Selangor. We hope that in future, we are able to open up or improve tourism sites, especially in environmental and agricultural tourism.

Elizabeth said this during a press conference on the Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Development Forum held at the Annex Hall, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building, today.

However, according to Elizabeth, the additional provisions will only be decided in the Executive Council meeting in October.

Elizabeth also expects for the tourism sector to help increase the GDP of Selangor.

Meanwhile, the Selangor Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Development Forum which was held in conjunction with the World Environment Day, on June 5, featured several prominent leaders in environment and heritage, from within the country and form abroad, as panellists.

Among them is the pioneer in heritage conservation and a renowned curator, the Secretary-General of the Taiwan Historical Resource Management, Alice Ru Hwa Chiu; the Vice President of the Malaysian Nature Society, Professor Dr Ahmad Ismail and the Senior Officer of the Forest and Peatland Programme, Nagarajan Rengasamy.

Also featured at the forum was the Managing Editor of the Travel leisure magazine, Azlie Halim and the Chairman of the Youth Association of Climate Change, Adrian Yeo, who also served as the moderator.
