Police: Crime Index in Subang Jaya Drops 18%

SUBANG JAYA, 14 May: As a result of close cooperation between the public and the local authorities in Subang Jaya, as well as the police, the crime rate in several areas in the district has been successfully reduced.

The Subang Jaya District Chief of Police, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Ramli, said that so far there has been a drop of 18 percent in the overall crime index; as of May 11.

He said that the encouraging success could not have been achieved if the community did not have the awareness to help the police prevent and combat crime.

“So far, there has been a drop of 18 percent in the overall crime index, while there is a decrease of almost 30 percent in burglary cases.

“These findings were obtained through close cooperation with government agencies, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and the public to combat and control crime in Subang Jaya,” he said at the Civilized Youth Prevent Crime programme at The Summit yesterday.

In the meantime, Yahya also welcomed the implementation of the programme organised by MPSJ which encourages youths to actively prevent crime as an effort to assist the police.

He said that youths are the best group to convey to the public that crime must be dealt with together and is the responsibility of all parties.

“This programme builds a good rapport between the police and participants (youths), so when they work together, they will not be shy around the police.

“It allows youths to help the police prevent crime as a whole because they are the best group (to help us prevent crime),” he added.
