KJ Jokes, Assumes Federal Government is Holy in Selangor’s Water Crisis

SHAH ALAM, 7 May: Actions of the Minister of Youth and Sport, Khairy Jamaluddin (KJ), who continuously wants to portray the Federal Government as being holy in the water crisis is seen as a joke.

The DAP Publicity Secretary, Tony Pua, said that KJ wants to put the blame on the State Government and the people’s refusal to compromise with absurd claims by concessionaires, when in truth, it is borne by the Federal Government.

He said that it is like saying that the State Government is not responsible when they disagreed to enrich companies owned by Barisan Nasional (BN) cronies.

“The State Government did the most logical thing when in 2009, they offered to give concessionaires a minimum return of 12 percent to acquire all the companies.

“But they are not satisfied and asked for damages for future losses. If we agree to pay their future losses, then we do not need to bother taking over,” he said in a statement.

Prior to this, it was reported that KJ said that the State Government’s stubbornness in allowing the increase in electricity tariff and failure to take over water assets caused Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) to fail in resolving the problem of non-revenue water (NRW).

KJ also blamed the State Government for not agreeing with the Langat 2 Project, causing the water crisis to happen.

“Firstly, KJ should know that the Langat 2 project will still not be completed immediately despite the agreement being signed in 2009.

“Secondly, the Federal Government should not keep running away when they are the ones refusing to cooperate for the success of the restructuring of the water industry,” he said.
