CM: Local Authority Council Members’ Election Ends in March

SHAH ALAM, 24 Feb: The issue of the re-election of members from Local Authorities is expected to end in mid-March, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He said that the re-election of councillors involve those from PKR only, while the PAS and DAP election has been completed.

“This is only for PKR. We ask PKR to propose names for the election to increase council members.

“So far, in the PKR list, there is a total of 120 people. Only 80 have been completed while 40 others are still being proposed,” said Abdul Khalid in a press conference after inaugurating the monthly assembly.

He said this while commenting on the issue where 42 council members were not re-elected for the new term.

Abdul Khalid said that he has asked PKR to list names of those suitable and qualified to be council members.

Yesterday, the State Government Executive Councillor, Rodziah Ismail, said that the State Government wants to re-appoint Local Authority council members based on educational qualifications and a balanced participation, with the inclusion of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and women.

For the record, PKR submitted 120 names (PKR members) to be appointed as council members. Meanwhile, the Selangor PAS Commissioner, Iskandar Samad, submitted 67 names (PAS members) and Datuk Teng Chang Khim submitted 92 names (DAP members) for the same purpose.

Nine Orang Besar Daerah were also appointed for the post.
