CM: Water Scheduling Implemented in the Interest of the Public

SHAH ALAM, 15 Apr: The water scheduling measure is taken to not inconvenience the public, but collectively decided by the special committee for the sake of public interest.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the special committee is headed by the State Government Secretary, together with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), the Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas) and local authorities.

He said the decision to implement the water scheduling programme was also based on current water level readings at dams in Selangor.

“We are ready to explain this and I think the purpose (water scheduling) is not to inconvenience the people, but to help continuous conservation of water.

“This action was also taken in the interest of all the people of Selangor,” he told reporters at the State Assembly lobby this morning.

He was commenting on the people’s move of wanting to sue the State Government on the problems of water shortage due to the rationing programme which was implemented early last March.

Commenting on latest developments, Abdul Khalid (PKR-Port Klang) said that he will hold further discussions next week about the water scheduling programme, which has now entered its fourth phase.

“The water is now up by one percent (Sungai Selangor Dam), however it is still not enough. But we have a proposal to resolve this matter.

“If we have to continue the scheduling, we need to explain the reason the decision is made,” he said.

Yesterday, in front of the State Assembly, he said that the water level at the Sungai Selangor Dam has increased to 40 percent, but they need to wait until it is at least at 50 percent to end the rationing programme.

The dam, which is located in Kuala Kubu Baru, supplies 60 percent of raw water to the Klang Valley.
