MDHS Checks Drainage System to Overcome Flash Floods

HULU SELANGOR, 13 Jan: The Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) will check all the drainage systems in the Bukit Sentosa areas to overcome flooding problems that often occur, especially during heavy rains.

Its President, Tukiman Nail, said that he will continue to hold discussions with the Public Works Department (JKR) as they are responsible for making drains in the area.

He said that the drain designs are done by JKR while the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) also has a water reservoir system that will be released in a controlled manner.

“Previously, the shop area that was developed had its own drain, but when there were housing developments, the drain has to be shared, causing flooding risk and this should be checked.

“We will get developments about the drains and I have asked for drains to be created because it is the main road,” he said when met at the Thanksgiving Ceremony for the Daisi Housing Victory at the Beautiful Environment Programme 2013.

He said this in response to the flooding problem that always occurs at Jalan Meranti 2A here in Bukit Sentosa.

Elaborating, he said from the result of discussions between MDHS and developers, the flooding problem was found to occur because the drains are too narrow, causing water to overflow and enter the drains in the area.

“Actually, the existing drains are only catchments.

“Now we have identified the problem so we will ask the developer to take appropriate action to address the problem,” he said, quoted from Sinar Harian.
