GEORGE TOWN, 12 May: Ramkarpal Singh Deo, the third son of the late Karpal Singh, is hoping to increase the majority for the DAP in the Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25.
Despite anticipating a tough fight, Ramkarpal Singh said he would work hard to convince the voters to defend his father’s seat.
At the last general election, DAP won with a landslide majority of 41,778 votes, defeating his opponent from BN, Teh Beng Yeam.
“It’s not going to be an easy contest but I will work with my comrades in the party to ensure we win this by-election,” quoted from Bernama after the nomination at Dewan Sri Pinang today.
The Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election, which has been necessitated by Karpal Singh’s death, is a four-cornered fight among the DAP, Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) and two independents.
DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang said he anticipated a tough fight in the by-election despite the Barisan Nasional (BN) not contesting.
The Bukit Gelugor by-election is a four-cornered contest among Ramkarpal Singh, PCM vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan and independent candidates Mohd Nabi Bux Mohd Abd Sathar and Abu Backer Sidek Mohammad Zan.
