While TNB profits billions, 50 families at an apartment in Kajang are in darkness and heat

KAJANG, 27 June: Over 50 families at the Taman Bukit Permai apartment have been in darkness for two nights after Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) cut off the electricity supply to their homes.

The cut in the electricity supply is allegedly caused by the failure of the developer to pay electricity maintenance arrears, which now stands at over RM50,000.

A member of the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), Mohd Adram Musa, said that he met with the residents and asked MPKj, TNB and the developer to immediately meet and discuss a solution to the problem.

He was disappointed by TNB’s move to cut the electricity to the apartment without taking into account the problems faced by the residents, when recent news mentioned that TNB earned a profit reaching RM4,61 billion.

“With a profit so great, TNB should be more aware and concerned with the problems of the residents, especially schooling children and the elderly, and not only think of making a profit,” said Mohd Adram.

He was also disappointed with the indifference of the developer, who allegedly wants to let go and let the people face the problem by themselves.

Regarding the development status of the area, such as the responsibilities of the developer, ownership status, and lift damage, he asked the media to refer to the MPKj management to obtain the official information.

Mohd Adram also urged the MPKj enforcement to take action of those illegally trespassing unoccupied housing lots because there have been reports of nuisance happening in the housing area.

He also explained that among the causes of the initial maintenance in the area was due to a landslide that happened near the apartment, causing the residents to not be able to reside in their homes.

As a result of efforts from all parties, the wall was repaired by MPKj, at a cost of almost RM4 million.

He said that a meeting between the MPKj council members, developers, the MPKj Building Commissioner, TNB and residents’ representatives, with the cooperation of the Bangi Assemblyman, Ustaz Shafie Ngah, will be held to find a solution to the problem.
