DS Dr Wan Azizah announced as the Permatang Pauh by-election candidate

SEBERANG JAYA, 24 Apr: As expected, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was once again announced as the PKR candidate for the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary By-Election, which will take place on May 7.

The announcement was made by the PKR Deputy President, Mohamed Azmin Ali, at the Seberang Perai Arena at 11.20 pm.

“A husband and wife share one body. Datuk Seri Anwar may be in jail but his spirit is blazing across the country,” he said.

Also present was the PAS Deputy President, Mohamad Sabu, and the DAP Secretary-General, Lim Guan Eng.

The Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat was declared vacant after Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was sentenced to five years in prison for charges in the Defamation II case.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the Kajang Assemblyman in Selangor, previously contested for the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary seat and won it in 1999 after Anwar was imprisoned.

She became the Member of Parliament for the area for two teams and resigned to make way for Anwar when he was released after serving his sentence in prison for five years.

8.3

For the 13th General Election, Anwar won the parliamentary seat by defeating the BN candidate Mazlan Ismail with a majority of 11,721 votes.

P044 Parliament involves three State Legislative Assemblies, Seberang Jaya, Permatang Pasir and Penanti.
