KUALA LUMPUR, July 9: Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Members of Parliament want to be involved in the committee to monitor the progress of the KLIA2 project which has been delayed and its cost had increased by RM2 billion.

Lembah Pantai MP, Nurul Izzah Anwar said that Pakatan also asked for an independent audit to be conducted by the ministry to identify the reasons for the delay.

“For the benefit of the people and seeing that the original expenditure of the KLIA2 project has increased from RM1.9 billion to RM4 billion to date, we ask for access to join the committee,” she said in a press conference here at the Parliament Lobby today.

Also present was the Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament, Tony Pua.

He claimed that the financial analyst reports indicate the delays in the completion of KLIA2 will result in additional spending of RM 500 million.

At the same time, he also slammed the KLIA Consultancy Services Sdn Bhd, a company wholly owned by the Finance Minister, of not being strict in monitoring and preventing any changes in the work scope of KLIA2 (variation order).

The changes include the extension of the Aircraft Runway 3, earthworks changes and a general increase in public infrastructure.

Nurul Izzah said that such claims are in addition to the asking price of the UBPJV contractor which is asking RM300 million from Malaysian Airport holdings Berhad (MAHB) to expand the ground floor of the main terminal and satellite buildings.

The expansion is to meet demands from various government agencies, including the Milando Air airline company.

MAHB is a company that manages KLIA and will manage KLIA2.

“MAHB also once insisted that KLIA2 will be completed by June 28, 2013.

“Now, after being presses and urged by us, they admitted the delay in the implementation of the project with the new date given being April 30, 2014,” said Nurul Izzah.
