SHAH ALAM, 12 Nov: The state government has been urged to take several initiatives in an effort to improve the education system for people with disabilities (PWDs).
Civil servant,, mohd MMustakhim Abdul Rahim, 28, advised the state government to provide special provisions to provide special training to teachers.
“It is not easy to handle these special children, so a professional teaching force should exist.
“We want this group to be interested in learning, to know self-reliance and have high self-confidence in their future,” said the father to two disabled children to Selangor Kini today.
Yesterday, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, announced that the state government will develop pre-school education for children with disabilities to ensure that they enjoy early education like other children.
He said that the state government is willing to set up basic facilities, but they need the support of the private sector for teacher training, curriculum and other related matters.
Commenting of the aspiration, Rosyidah Bai, 39, from Port Klang, hopes that the state government can emulate the initiatives of other countries in providing education to PWDs.
“Here, PWDs need to go to school and it is sometimes is burdensome for less fortunate parents because they have to rush to work and other living matters, and in the end, their child will no longer go to school.
“Unlike other countries where teachers come to the house and there is tailored professional programme development to educate special children.
“Most importantly, the cost charged should not burden parents,” she said.
