Selangor chicken egg exports to Singapore over RM43.5 million

SHAH ALAM, 12 Aug: The production of chicken eggs in Selangor has reached the status of elf-sufficiency, allowing the product to be exported to markets abroad.

According to the data issued by the state Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), Selangor has been estimated to export eggs to Singapore amounting to RM43,518,900 in 2014.

The value of the export consists of 125,760,000 eggs with an export value of RM38,985,600.

While liquid eggs whites recorded 85,515 kilograms (kg) with an export value of RM1,539,270 and 166,335 kg liquid eggs worth RM2,994,030.

Its Director, Dr Akma Ngah Hamid, said that the Selangor DVS also targets livestock to be increased to meet the needs of the people in the state, in addition to the production of eggs.

“Compared to livestock, the production of eggs in Selangor is great.

“In addition to small and medium producers, we have the largest egg farms such as Selasih and Lay Hong that are capable of supplying eggs in large quantities to meet the local demand as well as demand abroad,” he told Selangor Kini.

When touching on chicken and duck production, Dr Akma said that the production in Selangor was able to supply 73,630 metric tonnes in 2014 with a self-sufficiency capacity reaching 38.16 percent.

He said that the demand for animal-based food in Selangor has been found to have increased due to the status as a developed state that is the focus of employment seekers.

“Therefore, it is our priority to ensure that the food supply security for Selangorians is always sufficient,” he said.
