Water: Selangor to present the official response on Monday

KLANG, 4 Apr: The official response to Putrajaya regarding the extension for the deadline on the master agreement for the restructuring of Selangor’s water industry will be presented this coming Monday.

Subsequently, a meeting with the Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili, to find solutions to issues raised is expected to take place next week.

“I believe that when both parties agree to the terms of the main agreement that was signed on September 12, 2014, the matter can be resolved immediately in the interest of the people of Selangor,” said Chief Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali during a press conference after opening the Klang GM Wholesale Launching Ceremony today.

Before that, he was invited to officiate the Selangor Astronomy Convention 2015 at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Mosque in Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam.

At the ceremony, Mohamed Azmin said that discussions had to be postponed as the current focus is on the Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session which is going on now.

“Yes, although I have not formally replied (the Minister’s letter), but discussions have begun at the officers level about two weeks ago where the State Government Secretary (SUK) personally led the state government delegation to meet with the chief secretary.

Earlier, the Selangor government was given until April 30 to provide answers on the extension of the deadline for the Master Agreement on the restructuring of the water supply industry of Selangor.

If they fail to do so, the Federal Government will assume that the Selangor government is not interested in accepting the offer on the restructuring measures and the full takeover of concessionaires in Selangor, as contained in the Master Agreement.
