DNS asked to resolve the issue of criticising Friday sermons

SHAH ALAM, 2 Apr: The Selangor State Assembly (DNS) has been asked to make a stand on the Friday sermon approved by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), which has invited criticism from certain parties.

Sulaiman Abdul Razak (BN-Permatang) said that the DNS is the supreme council that makes and approved the enactment regarding religious laws and Syariah in Selangor.

He said that the statement made by the DAP Women’s Chief, Chong Eng, even though it took place about two months ago should be taken seriously because it is a sensitive issue for the Muslim community.

“We completely do not agree with the statement made by Chong Eng on the issue of the Friday sermons.

“We are all aware that the Friday sermon is allowed to be read in mosques across Selangor; it is issued and adjusted by JAIS through discussions among religious scholars from JAIS,” he told reporters at the DNS lobby today.

Sulaiman said, during the debate session in the Assembly, that he is not interested to debate with the Damansara Utama Assemblyman, Yeo Bee Yin, because the DAP representative is not a Muslim and may not understand the desired purpose.

“If I argue from the view of Islam and she does not understand, the debate will not bring any good,” he said.
