Drought: Save water campaign to ensure adequate supply

PETALING JAYA, 4 Mar: Various measures needs to be taken by the state government, including holding a save water campaign to ensure that there is adequate supply during the hot and dry season.

Petaling Jaya Utara Member of Parliament, Tony Pua, said that the decisive action to be taken against factories that pollute water sources should be intensified, including continuous monitoring to ensure that rivers are not contaminated.

“Ensure that factories do not emit toxic substances into rivers to ensure that our rivers are not polluted.

“The state government should also make preparations to increase reservoir at dams.

“The save water campaign should also be carried out so that people do not use excessive water, especially during peak hours,” he said when met by Selangor Kini.

Tony Pua said that alternative measures should be taken immediately to prevent water rationing from happening, like previously.

“If the drought continues, we are afraid that dams and water reservoirs will be at critical levels.

“So, as a responsible government, the state government needs to think of alternative measures immediately,” he said.

Prior to this, the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the state government guarantees that there will be no water rationing during the drought at the moment.

He said that the Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) meeting will be held to discuss alternative measures to deal with it.
