EXCLUSIVE: Water collection is believed to be the cause of dengue

SHAH ALAM, 12 Feb: The problems of water collecting and polluted environment at housing areas are believed to be among the causes of the dengue epidemic in Selangor.

This situation was experienced by a former dengue patient who notified the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) after a follow-up was carried out at the patients housing area.

The victim, Seh Pei Sun, from Taman Bayu Perdana, Klang, said that MPK health officers carried out cleaning and monitoring to overcome the problem.

“From the feedback received, it is indeed believed that the outbreak happened due to water collecting in certain areas around my home,” Seh said.

The Mandarin-language newspaper editor said that she and her husband were confirmed to have been infected by dengue after undergoing medical examination at the health clinic for fever and bone pain last October.

She said that almost 80 percent associated with the same outbreak received follow-up treatment at a private hospital in Klang several days later.

“There is no specific medicine to cure it. We were only given enough water to drink.

“In early February, my two children, aged five and seven years of age, were also infected by the same epidemic but only received outpatient treatment at the district health clinic,” she said.

She said that the situation at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang was also full of patients who mostly were suffering from dengue, from the information obtained.
