CM: The composition of PAC members remain, BN should play role of an effective opposition

SHAH ALAM, 22 Dec: The composition of the Selangor Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members remain even though the opposition in the state wants changes according to their demands.

The Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Azmin Ali, said that demands from Barisan Nasional (BN) to change the composition in the PAC will not happen because Selangor is a democratic state.

“This is the stand of a democratic state which practices democracy. We want democracy in the state and also in the Assembly to be nurtured.

“So we recognise the role of the opposition leader and that is why we are providing all rightful facilities to the opposition leader including a vehicle, allowance, a driver and also other facilities to all Assemblymen from the opposition,” he said when met by the media after the Selangor GP Grand Slam 2014 yesterday.

The composition of the PAC comprises of five Pakatan Rakyat (PR) Assemblymen and two from BN.

Mohamed Azmin said that Umno should take the opportunity to prove themselves as an effective opposition in ensuring Selangor practices democratic policies in its administration.

“The composition is one of the committees played by the PAC and the position of the opposition leader as the chairman would certainly have a significant role in carrying out duties and other responsibilities.

“We have several other Assembly committees such as the Selcat and other select committees comprising of members of the opposition, so the position must be proven first,” he said, taken from The Malaysian Insider.

The Selangor State Assembly Opposition Leader’s seat was left vacant following the resignation of Datuk Mohd Shamsuddin on December 8 after rejecting the position as the Chairman of the state PAC.
