Oktoberfest: Selangor PAS urges MBSA to act

SHAH ALAM: PAS is asking the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to take decisive action on the responsible parties that have sparked controversy by putting up Oktoberfest billboards without permission.

The Selangor PAS Information Chief, Zaidy Abdul Talib, said that the responsible parties were brave enough to put up the billboard three days after it was taken down.

“The Selangor Government and Local Authorities have never approved anything related to this programme. It can be described as sparking and challenging the harmony which has always pervaded in the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat Government,” stressed Zaidy.

He expressed sorrow over the attitude of organisers who tarnish the sensitivities of religious adherents in the state. According to his statement, Oktoberfest has been said to be organised at several places in Selangor, with the highlight of this event at the 1Utama shopping centre.

“Islam has no prevention, except for Muslims to drink alcohol, because it is the right of non-Muslims. However, if it is held on a large scale, such as at festivals, not to mention to hype it up like in ads in supermarkets and billboards and so on, it is in clear violation of social living ethics, in fact all religions in this world,” the statement said.

The Selangor PAS reminded that they will not hesitate to take decisive action by enhancing harmony values championed by all ethnic groups and religions.

“The Selangor PAS will try to push through the provisions of power which the Selangor State Government and Local Authorities involved have so that festivals in open areas such as parking spaces and so on are in clear conflict of Act 174 which can cause it to be moved or cancelled, and prevent the participation of Muslims and those underage,” explained Zaidy.
