30 illegal waste sites closed

SHAH ALAM, 12 Oct: About 30 illegal dumpsites have been identified across this state and are in the process of being closed and cleaned.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Tourism, Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs, Elizabeth Wong, said that the local authorities will build a barrier to avoid a repeat of such activities.

“If the land used for waste dumping is privately owned, the state government will use the National Land Code to seize the land for misuse of these terms.

“If the illegal dumping waste is identified to be privately owned, the owner will be handed the land confiscation form immediately,” she said, quoted from Sinar Harian.

She said that the meeting, which was joined by the Exco for Local Government, Legalising Illegal Factories and New Village Development, Ean Yong Hian Wah, and local authorities, Assemblymen and relevant parties, decided for all local authorities to be given the power to close all illegal landfills.
