CM: 50% of the middle-class targeted to earn an income of RM4,000 per month

SHAH ALAM, 9 June: The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the development in Selangor is something that is encouraged, however, reminded that it should not oppress the people in the state.

He said that the development of a state is not successful if the per capita income of the people is not increased to at least RM4,000 per month per family.

He said that there is a huge gap in relation to the per capita income of families in the state, where almost 70% of them earn an income of less than RM4,000 per month.

“We must plan so that the household income can be increased so that no family has an income that is too low.

“If we want Selangor to be advanced, then the income of the people should be improved so that they can have control of property development in this state,” he said when launching the Selangor Budget 2015 Dialogue at the Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC) today.

Abdul Khalid said that Selangor will be turned into a municipal state in 2015 and will witness over 60% of residents concentrated in urban areas.

He said that municipalities are a phenomenon or an inevitable part in the development of a state or country, involving many aspects like infrastructure and facilities.

“Our target is to develop the state of Selangor and reduce the income gap of families so that they have higher incomes.

“We are aiming for 50% of the middle-class to earn an income of over RM4,000 per month in an effort to intensify development,” he added.
