SUKMA 2014: Selangor Expects to Win 50 Gold Medals, Mission to Defend Title

SHAH ALAM, 28 Mar: Selangor expects to win at least 50 gold medals which will allow the contingent to emerge as champions in the Malaysian Games (SUKMA) XVII 2014, which will take place in Perlis this May.

The Execitive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that he is confident that the Selangor athletes in the games will realise the Selangor State Government’s dream in defending the title from last year.

“There are some Selangor athletes that other states have tried to steal. Though there is transparency, but athletes that can contribute gold medals in the past games are still in the Selangor team this year and we hope to keep them,” he said recently.

Speaking to Selangor Kini, Yunus expects for swimming to contribute the most medals in the upcoming SUKMA.

He said that he is also confident that other sports, like hockey and football, can bring in medals because each team has a target for medals that can be earned at the games.

At the SUKMA XVI in Kuala Lumpur last year, Selangor emerged the winner by successfully winning 23 gold medals, 17 silver and 30 bronze.
