SHAH ALAM, JUL 24: A total of 24 contractors were awarded the Domestic Garbage Collection Contracts Session 2016-2019 from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

Mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said there are improvements in the new contracts, with increases in frequency for garbage collection for houses and landed residences.

“The frequency of garbage collection is increased from three times a week to four times a week now including the weekend.

“To overcome the issue of illegal garbage disposal, collection of domestic waste in premises such as detached industrial areas, terraced and linked industrial areas as well as hotels, are also increased to five times a week,” he said in a statement.

He said the contractors have to provide compactor trucks based on the numbers and specifications in the contract.

“At the same time, these trucks also need to be installed with the Automatic Vehicle Locating System for monitoring purposes.

“The installation cost is around RM1,000 to RM3,000 while leasing it will cost approximately RM160 a month,” he said.

The new contract also states that contractors must provide MGB120 garbage bins for each landed house.  MBSA will reimburse the cost for this upon delivery of all the bins.

Apparently 24 contractors were appointed on July 1, covering 24 zones in Shah Alam while in Seksyen 10, 11 and 12, the domestic waste will be collected by workers from MBSA Solid Waste Management and Public Cleaning Department.

“MBSA will impose strict actions and contract termination on contractors who fail to comply with the conditions set.”
