SHAH ALAM, JUL 26: The Smart Selangor Lab is expected to pave the way for a more holistic implementation of policies to ensure that the Smart Selangor agenda will realised.

Environment Officer Norfaiza Abdul Muin said that the policies must take into account stakeholders’ views and recommendations throughout the lab.

“All this while, we at the local authority level have been looking forward to a firm policy that can be applied, for example in garbage management.

“At the moment, we have no policy in place for this since Selangor rejected the Federal Government Act 672,” said the employee of Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to SelangorKini.

She was one of the 60 Smart Selangor Lab Phase 2 participants in Saujana Hotel.

Assistant Environmental Health Officer in the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) Solid Waste and Public Cleanliness Department Nurhayati Sharifuddin shared the same view.

“We hope it would also include financial assistance to district councils like us who have a limited budget.

“With the support from the State Government and its subsidiaries, we believe that Smart Selangor can be a success and become a benchmark to other states in Malaysia,” she said.

Meanwhile, Assistant District Officer in the Hulu Langat District and Land Office Jurasmadi Pauzi warned that any policy or recommendation must be realistic.

“The Smart Selangor Lab is an important initiative to ensure the State Government receives responses from relevant parties.

“Therefore the lab must be continued in every ‘domain’ for holistic results that can be executed,” he said.
