SABAK BERNAM, SEP 21: The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) has completed repair works on broken barriers due to high tides at two locations in Air Tawar River.

Infrastructure, Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-Based Industries Exco Zaidy Abdul Talib said the swift action made it possible for 15 families from Program Pembangunan Rakyat Termiskin (PPRT) Sungai Air Tawar to return home from their flood relief centre.

“The State Government was quick in taking action to prevent sea water from flooding the affected areas.

“Damaged barriers in Kampung Sungai Lang and Kampung Sungai Apong are also currently in the process of immediate repair,” he said to SelangorKini.

On September 20, he checked on several broken barriers around Sabak Bernam.

Beginning September 18, several seaside areas in Selangor began to feel the effects of unusually high-tides, like those which had occurred in 2006.

Zaidy said that this continued this year particularly in the third week of every month, and water level is expected to reach up to 5.7 metres.

“Locals around the area are advised to be vigilant in case of floods.

“Residents are also reminded to always be alert with current information and to obey instructions from the authorities from time to time,” he said.
