Kajang By-Election: Wan Azizah Replaces Anwar to Contest

SHAH ALAM, 9 Mar: The President of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, has been chosen to replace her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to contest in the Kajang State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-election on 23 March.

This decision was announced by Anwar at the Kajang DUN by-election Operations Room at Batu 12, Kajang, at around 1.30pm today.

Wan Azizah was selected to replace Anwar after the PKR de facto leader was disqualified to contest when the Court of Appeal sentenced him to prison in a case involving his former aide, Saiful Bukhari Azlan, on 7 March.

Wan Azizah will face the Barisan Nasional candidate, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun and an independent candidate, who was a former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.

The Kajang DUN seat was vacant after its incumbent, who is also from PKR, Lee CHin Cheh, resigned on 27 January.
