Critical Dam Situation Expected to Recover After Monsoon Transition

SHAH ALAM, 20 Mar: The latest status of the capacity of dams in Selangor, which is critical at the time, is expected to recover after the Northeast Monsoon transitions to the inter-monsoon period at the end of the month, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to the agency, the monsoon transition will have a more comprehensive rainfall, especially in the evening and early night in rural areas in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Based on the wind direction at this point, we are still at the end of the Northeast monsoon.

“The water level in dams will increase every time the monsoon transition happens because there is more rainfall compared to other seasons,” he said to Selangor Kini.

However, the capacities of dams still depend on the amount of rainfall in catchment areas.

MetMalaysia also explained that the air quality is much better at that time and this will help to improve the Air Pollutant Index (API) which has been terrible recently due to te haze.

“The weather is more humid during this season and this situation is expected to not produce haze,” he said.
