SHAH ALAM, 1 May: Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that his decision to not hold position of Chief Minister after this term was made on his own will and not due to pressure from PKR or Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
Khalid, also a candidate for PKR Deputy President, said that this decision was made earlier and takes into account the administrative ways of developed countries of usually only holding office for two terms.
He said that the move to retreat allows the leadership legacy in Selangor to be held by other leaders to take the state to a higher level.
“We want to emulate other governments, like the United States, and we would also like to suggest for the leadership of political parties and the country to do the same.
“This needs to be done to provide an opportunity to others. Otherwise, we will be in the same notch causing there to be no new ideas or innovation,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after attending a rally in conjunction with the Labour Day celebration 2014, organised by the Malaysian Trade Union Congress (MTUC) at the Amcorp Mall East Field today.
Yesterday, through the Facebook social networking site, Abdul Khalid wrote that he does not intend to be Chief Minister for a third term, but he will however finish his service until the end of this term.
Abdul Khalid said however, this retreat announced is subject to the position of Chief Minister and will consider other opportunities if given trust.
“I will not accept post for Chief Minister, but if there are other (positions), I will decide (on the offer).
“For (the post of) Chief Minister, I think it is enough. It is time to give it to someone else to continue this responsibility,” he added.
