Anwar: ‘Make Changes Now, Not Wait 4 More Years’

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 May: Opposition leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said that he wants change in the country to be made now instead of waiting for the 14th General Election (GE14).

“We do not want to wait for the next GE. We demand for change to be made now. We do not want to wait four more years,” said Anwar during the May 1 Assembly to oppose the implementation of the GST at Jalan Raja, Dataran Merdeka.

Anwar said that the assembly today, which was successful, will be carried out again until the BN government stops the implementation of the GST, which takes effect in April 2015.

“If it is our government, do we listen to the government or should the government listen to us?” he asked.

Anwar Ibrahim took the stage and was greeted by cheers from an estimate of 50,000 participants.

“Today we shock them with the people’s uprising. RTM, TV3 reported that not more than 1,000 people are participating,” he said.

“We are overwhelmed by the people’s support. We feel what the people feel. That is why we are using the streets.

“Do BN ministers understand? They do not understand,” he added.

He also said that the people’s struggle is yet to be over. Elections are still dirty. As long as it is dirty, we will not win.

“But I said ‘No’! I’m going back to Malaysia to fight!,” he said.
