KUALA LUMPUR, 1 May: Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, praised the courageous people who participated in the assembly to oppose the implementation of the GST by urging them to continue efforts to fight against the Barisan Nasional (BN) government which has destroyed the administrative system, economy and judiciary of the country.

Anwar said that the uprising of the people today is not the end, but will be continued until BN falls.

“Our country’s system is getting dilapidated, damaged. We want to wait for a clean election to he held, but we will not get it.

“That is why we cannot wait for the next general election. We must clean up the damaged system now,” Anwar said while speaking in front of about 50,000 participants of the peaceful assembly, the May 1 Assembly 2014, at Dataran Merdeka today.

Anwar added that the government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is a wasteful government and takes the easy way by implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) which burdens the people.

Anwar also also slammed the mainstream media, which he expects will report that the anti-GST assembly will not receive the response of the people.

The PAS Deputy President, Mohamad Sabu, called for the people to continue pressure by attending assemblies like this so that the government cancels their intention to implement the GST.

“Prior to this, we have proven successful when we demonstrated against the learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PSSMI). They cancelled it. The same goes for the anti-ISA, they repealed the act.

“The Election Commission (EC), if you continue to cheat in the election, the people will surround your office soon.

“As they rules, not only did Altantuya disappear, not just an engine of an airplane disappeared, but the airplane also disappeared,” said Mohamad Sabu.

The Member of Parliament for Gombak, Mohamed Azmin Ali, urged Malaysians to be ready to rise up again to prevent Anwar’s imprisonment for the second time.

“We have to be ready to rise up if the Federal Court makes an unfair judgement to deliberately imprison Anwar.

“Not only are they unfair to Anwar, but they damage the country’s judiciary institution. They are acting this way because they fear Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.
