MCA Will Consider Position in BN if Umno Supports Hudud

SHAH ALAM, 8 May: The Deputy President of MCA, Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong, stressed that the party will consider their position in Barisan Nasional (BN) if their Umno ally agrees to the implementation of Hudud law.

He said that the party remains with their stand to return to basic principles of the Federal Constitution since BN was established, regardless of who brings up the motion of the implementation of Hudud to Parliament and is supported by Umno members.

In the case of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, he said that the speech did not represent BN, and only because Jamil Khir is a member of Umno.

“In this case, it is not a stand agreed by BN. I can see that more than half of the component party leaders do not agree because of party plurality in BN.

“If this happens, MCA would have to reconsider its position in Barisan should Umno MPs maintain their support for PAS’s hudud,” he said at a discourse organised by the Karangkraf Group, ‘Hudud: Are We Ready’.

Previously, Jamil Khir, in a winding-up session in Parliament, said that the Federal Government is ready to give way to all states, including Kelantan, to take up the issue to the Dewan Rakyat.
