Local authorities need a fixed SOP to manage markets within Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 25 MAY: Local Authorities (PBT) of Selangor will need to set a fixed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in managing morning and night markets throughout the state.

State Assemblywoman (ADUN) of Taman Medan, Haniza Talha, said the problems emerge because operations at these markets are different from one area to another. It also cause confusion to many and also among enforcement officers.

She said the Local Authorities (PBT) should change and correct the management of the markets with SOP according to the same set of standards and abilities after taking over the management.

“We witnessed how the management was not done according to standards. There are some areas that are managed by the Local Authorities(PBT), some by Residents Association (JKP) or Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and some even by the Trader’s Association.

“Problems arise because there is no coordinated system. There are some individuals who could not provide receipts of rent collection when requested to,” she told Selangor Kini, recently.

Haniza also commented on the issue of rent collection from morning and night markets involving Local Authorities (PBT), JKP and JKKK during her previous term as chairperson for Selangor Select Committee on Local Authority.

She said, traders association involved in managing and collecting rentals has violated the rules and regulations set by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), because they are making a profit.

“We were also told, a committee from a political party has been managing a night market in an area within the local district for quite some time. We hope PBT will take over the management for that area because it is the rights of the PBT,” she said.
